Go Red for Women was launched in 2004 by the American Heart Association as a national women's health movement that works to increase awareness of cardiovascular diseases. Our local, yearlong campaigns provide women of all generations with lifesaving knowledge and information about how to live healthier lives. Cardiovascular diseases claim the life of one woman ever 80 seconds, yet 80% of these deaths are preventable with awareness and simple lifestyle choices.
Go Red for Women provides a platform for women and their families to lead healthier lives, and drive collective action for community transformation. It’s not just about wearing red; it’s not just about sharing heart health facts. It’s about:
Through corporate and community-based partnerships, volunteer leadership, and the help of individual donors and survivors, Go Red unites women of all generations and ethnicities, and empowers them to recognize their risk of heart disease, create lasting change in their health, and become lifesavers through educating others, ultimately helping to eliminate heart disease and stroke.
Together, we will drive innovation, research, and education to create a safer, healthier Detroit.
This year's cornerstone event, the Go Red For Women Luncheon was held Friday, February 21, 2020.
This empowering event focuses on preventing heart disease and stroke by promoting healthy lifestyles, building awareness, and raising critically needed funds to support research and education initiatives. Cardiovascular diseases, which include stroke, claim the life of a woman about every 80 seconds. We hope you will join us on our mission because about 80 percent of cardiovascular diseases may be prevented.
