2012 Event Chair

I am very proud and excited to be the luncheon chair of the Great Lakes Bay Area Go Red For Women Conference on Feb 10, 2012.   Go Red For Women is the American Heart Association’s solution to save women’s lives.  Too many women die each year because they are unaware that heart disease is their # 1 killer.  If you have not been to a Go Red conference yet, you are really missing out on a fun and educational day that is shared with hundreds of other women…all dressed in red, with a common bond and goal…to help stop heart disease.  This year we have scheduled a dynamic medical panel along with informative and inspirational breakout sessions and survivor speakers, a silent auction with some great “don’t want to miss” items, networking time, and a dynamite physician keynote speaker during lunch.
I support Go Red For Women because I don’t want any woman to lose her life because she doesn’t know the signs and symptoms of heart disease. Go Red For Women helps educate women on ways to prevent and reduce the chances of it striking our friends, family and co-workers!
I would like to thank all of our generous business and individual sponsors over the past 6 years, including Chemical Bank, for their support!
Please join us on Feb 10th at the Midland Country Club for a fun and informative day and remember to wear red!  Spread the word and ask a friend to join you!  You may register or donate on this site.  Thank you for your generous support and I look forward to seeing you on Feb 10th!

Message From Nancy Brown
for position only

Dear Friends,

Welcome to the 2012 Great Lakes Bay Region Go Red For Women Luncheon! We’re delighted you are here and appreciate your interest in learning how you can advance health, stop heart disease and save women’s lives. That’s what the American Heart Association’s Go Red For Women® movement is all about.

Heart disease isn’t just a man’s problem. It’s a woman’s problem, too. In fact, it’s the No. 1 killer of women. And, tragically, far too few women realize their risk from this preventable disease. We need to raise women’s awareness of their risk and protect our mothers, daughters, sisters, friends and ourselves.

You can help, starting today. Here’s how:

First, take charge of your own heart health. Visit your doctor. Know your numbers (learn more at www.GoRedForWomen.org). You can improve your blood pressure, cholesterol and other numbers by making lifestyle changes. You’ll be healthier and look and feel better, too.

Second, join the American Heart Association in making it your mission to fight heart disease in women. Help spread the word that heart disease is women’s No. 1 killer. Share what you learn today with your family and members of your community. Tell five women you want them to live and we can help stop heart disease in our lifetime.

Third and last, consider making a contribution. Your donation today will make a difference in the lives of women here and across the country. You can help fund local and national Go Red activities that support awareness, research, education and community programs that benefit women.

Thank you again for being here. My hope is that you won’t leave today without committing to making a difference by joining the Go Red For Women movement — women everywhere need your help. Only one in five women believes that heart disease is her greatest health threat. We believe reducing risk and preventing heart disease starts with education — and you. There’s so much to do, and so much at stake.

With your commitment, we can help women and their families live longer, stronger lives. Thank you for your generous support.

Warm regards,

Nancy Brown
Chief Executive Officer
American Heart Association

Volunteer Spotlight

Melanie Wood

Melanie has been a Go Red For Women volunteer for two years and is very passionate about the cause. Yet this past fall her passion grew even deeper when she lost her sister in law, Nikkole, to a massive heart attack. Nikkole woke up not feeling well, was going to the hospital, but started feeling better and turned around. When she got home she died because she didn’t know the signs of a heart attack. Melanie has also had her own heart issues, including angina and her husband is currently wearing a heart monitor. Melanie Goes Red for all the women who need to learn the signs of a heart attack.
